Social Justice & Outreach

Caring & Sharing

Members provide assistance to individuals and families both inside and outside of the parish who are in need of food.  They also coordinate activities for other food drives.

Cathedral Kitchen

This group gathers monthly in the Parish Hall to prepare food for delivery to the Cathedral Kitchen.  Those wishing to do this at home are provided with cooking tins.  Casseroles are stored in the parish freezer until delivery.

Homeless Hospitality

Our parish, along with other religious groups, provides housing, food, and other services to homeless men throughout the winter season.  Typically, 12 men are housed in the Parish Hall for a two-week period in February.  Volunteers provide food, prepare meals, plan social and weekend activities, coordinate transportation, etc.

Pro-Life

This group is active in supporting parish and diocesan efforts in furthering the Church's position on the sacredness of life and life issues.

The Cherry Hill Food and Outreach Council

St. Mary Parish has recently joined in a new community outreach called The Cherry Hill Food and Outreach Council. The goal of the Council is to expand from being a food pantry and to also provide outreach services. Intake information will be required of those come for aid so that, in addition to providing food and immediate support, the Food Bank/Council will be able to assist individuals with the resources and skills formation that will help them rebuild their lives.   The pantry is located at St. Michael's Parish House, 102 Chapel Ave., Cherry Hill (the nearest intersection is Chapel Ave. and Kings Highway). The telephone number there is 856-482-0678. The Food Pantry is presently open on Tuesdays from 6:30pm-8:00pm and Thursdays from 11:30am-1:00pm

St. Mary Parish is scheduled to provide workers to help out at the pantry at specified times. If you are interested in participating in this ministry, please contact: Helen Myers (856) 787-9187, Midge Winkel (856) 234-2390, or Sandy Czerniakowski (856) 231-7879 for more details.

Interested in matters of Social Justice, such as immigration, the death penalty, global warming and economic justice? Please consider partnering with the social Justice Ministry at Holy Saviour Parish in Westmont. This active (and growing) group, whose mission is rooted in Catholic Social Teaching, would like to reach out to members of neighboring parishes for their ideas, their energy and their involvements. Our progress has been modest, so far, but exciting and informative and your participation is welcome. Movie screenings ("An Inconvenient Truth"), guest speakers (Larry DiPaul from the Romero Center in Camden) and our very successful Fair Trade Coffee program and Heifer International campaign are just the beginning. If you would like more information, please contact us at hsjusticeministry@comcast.net, or leave a message at the rectory (854-0022) and someone will get back to you.
